Windows can be windows, or “they are walls” (1).

In Soninké, the uterus is referred to as Saranka, “The mother’s house”. If we dig deeper, it could also be translated as the “house in which birth is given”. When I grasped the metaphor for the first time, I couldn’t help but feel trapped between the walls.
